The UK government released new immigration rules on July 17th for study in the UK on a student visa 2024. These rules impact foreign students at UK universities. International students in the UK are not in postgraduate research programs. They will no longer be able to bring dependents on their student visas after January 2024. Also, after July 17, foreign students can’t switch to a work visa. They can only do this if they have finished their studies.

Foreign students will start courses in January 2024. They will be subject to the new rules on student dependents. The amended rule about changing to a different visa went into effect on July 17, 2023, at 15:00 (UK time).

Partner, Children And Dependents Study In The UK On A Student visa

The term “dependents” refers to your spouse and kids. They may be eligible to apply to enter or stay in the UK.

One of the following must apply to you:

• A student gets government funding. They enroll in a course that lasts over six months.
• a full-time participant in a nine-month or longer postgraduate course (RQF level 7 or above).
• Your postgraduate course must be one of the following: If it begins on January 1, 2024, or after a doctorate (RQF level 8) or another doctorate a higher degree grounded in research.

One of the following describes a dependent partner or child:

• Your civil partner and spouse (husband/wife)
• Your partner who is single
• Your child under the age of eighteen, even if they were born in the UK while you were visiting
• When you apply, you’ll need to submit proof of your relationship with valid certificates.

To prove that your child is both, you must:

• Not in a civil relationship or marriage
• Live with you. Unless they are at a full-time school, like a boarding school or university, and living away.
• You must provide two of the following documents verifying their address: a bank statement, credit card bills, driving license, NHS registration document, an official letter from their university or college.
  

Requirement Of Money For supporting themselves

The location of your studies will determine how much money they need for study in the UK on a student visa. Either of the following must have happened:

• For a maximum of nine months, courses in London cost £845 a month.
• Up to nine months of courses outside of London at a monthly cost of £680.

Apply Outside And Inside the UK

They must have their picture and fingerprints taken at a visa application centre. This is part of their application to get a biometric residency permit. After they say they will arrive in the UK, they have ten days to pick up their biometric residence permit.

Your spouse or child may apply for a new visa. They can also apply to extend their current one with your application for a new or extended visa.
