Western Washington University has reportedly rescinded an undocumented student’s election to the Student Board of Directors because of her immigration status.
Ana Ramirez was recently elected as vice president of governmental affairs, becoming the first undocumented student elected to Western Washington’s student board, a local NBC affiliate reported.

But because Ms. Ramirez is an illegal immigrant who failed to apply in time for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), the university has invalidated her election.
“As much as the University values undocumented students and has a deep commitment to inclusion, we cannot put individual students or the University at risk of violating federal or state law,” the university said in a statement, NBC reported. “Until or unless an undocumented student candidate receives DACA
