Holding on to those words, Yolanda, 19, of the Far West Side, has been facing her fears head-on ever since.
“I am a strong believer that who you are and where you come from should not hinder your potential or your goals and should only make you a role model to others,” said Yolanda, one of hundreds of local immigrants brought to the United States illegally before the age of 16 who have been helped by a federal program aimed at boosting their potential.
