Two undocumented teenagers seeking abortions in the face of opposition from the Trump administration will be able to end their pregnancies after the Justice Department withdrew its court appeals and released one of the teens from U.S. custody.

The administration’s new policy of refusing to facilitate abortions for pregnant unaccompanied minors seemed to be on a fast track to the Supreme Court early this week, with its politically volatile mix of questions involving abortion rights and illegal immigration.
Instead, Justice Department lawyers late Tuesday dropped their appeals. The government said in court filings that it had obtained the birth certificate of one of the pregnant teens at the center of the challenge. She is not a 17-year-old minor, the government said,
