With as many as 60 school districts across California having declared themselves “safe zones” for undocumented immigrants who are fearful of deportation, an annual survey indicates that there’s strong public support for the establishment of so-called “sanctuary” school districts throughout the state.
The survey found that about 65 percent of adults and 74 percent of public school parents in California are in favor of their local school district designating itself as a “sanctuary safe zone” to protect its undocumented students and families, according to an annual statewide survey on education released Wednesday by the Public Policy Institute of California.

In addition, about 46 percent of adults surveyed said they were very concerned about the impact that stepped-up immigration-enforcement efforts will have on their school’s undocumented students and families, according to the survey.
