NORTH ANDOVER — They showed up in steady numbers to the town common, carrying signs they would later use as cover from the afternoon rain.
By 1 p.m., the crowd of mostly white men, women and children had swelled by the dozens, and so had the signs, for a rally expressing solidarity with immigrants they feel are being targeted by the Trump White House.

“No matter where you’re from, we’re glad you’re our neighbor” read one sign in English, Spanish and Arabic.
“Remember the inherent worth and dignity of all people” said another sign, which sat atop a woman’s straw hat.
The rally was organized by the North Parish of North Andover Unitarian Universalist Church in advance of the unity march to celebrate immigrant pride Monday at Campagnone Park in Lawrence.
The event Monday is part of a larger nationwide initiative, A Day Without Immigrants, hosted by Cosecha, an organization
