A shocking number of undocumented immigrants have been arrested in Bexar County this year already.

Since January the jail has processed a total of 282 people in the U.S. illegally. Immigration and Customs Enforcement or “ICE” took all but 39 of those into custody.
Sheriff Javier Salazar tells us that the 39 were charged with less serious crimes.
“ICE issues the detainer, and we honor those detainers,” Sheriff Salazar explained. “It’s not for us to question why ICE is choosing to detain those that they detain. We corporate with them, and then we continue doing our job as we are able to.”
So what does that mean for the 243 others? Those are the ones, we’re told, that ICE has “probable cause” to believe are removable from the United States because the crimes would rise to the felony level.
