BAY CITY, MI — A man who emigrated from Ireland, settled in Michigan’s Thumb, and started two dairy farms has pleaded guilty to federal charges of hiring undocumented immigrants.
Denis Burke on Tuesday, Sept. 19, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Patricia T. Morris in the federal courthouse in downtown Bay City. He pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly harboring illegal aliens for private gain and/or commercial advantage. The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or twice the amount that was illicitly gained.
