SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —
The man who ran what federal prosecutors called the largest immigration fraud schemes they had ever seen was been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Helaman Hansen ran the Americans Helping America Chamber of Commerce and promised citizenship to un-naturalized immigrants for a price. Many of the victims KCRA 3 Investigates spoke with gave upwards of $10,000 — and in many cases all the money they had, to Hansen. In exchange, Hansen’s company would have another U.S. citizen adopt them as an adult.
Because of the scheme, so many adult adoptions were occurring that some family court judges began refusing to hear cases if Hansen and his company were involved.
