On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions addressed border patrol agents in Nogales, Arizona, where he vowed to pose harsher penalties on undocumented immigrants who commit crimes in the United States.
The Wall Street Journal reported that, in his effort to conflate and misrepresent the actual criminal threat undocumented immigrants pose, Sessions issued a memo to prosecutors instructing them to make immigration-related offenses “higher priorities,” which includes non-violent offenses like helping immigrants cross the border or harboring them. Sessions also vowed to hire 125 immigration judges in order to handle a backlog of cases.

Although studies show that immigrants are likely to commit significantly fewer violent crimes than citizens, you’d never know it from the way Sessions pushed law and order rhetoric at his address to border patrol agents. In fairness, he’s just echoing his boss’s erroneous sentiment that Mexico sends over rapists and murderers.
