The crackdown on the flow of illegal immigrants across the U.S.-Mexico border is bearing fruit the White House hoped for, senior officials said ahead of President Donald Trump’s visit to Yuma, Arizona.
Arrests of illegal immigrants are up 43 percent in the first half of 2017 compared to the same period in the previous year, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials said in a call on Tuesday. The DHS branch of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made 91,000 arrests during the first seven months of this year.

“Going from 5 miles of fence to 60 miles of fence on the Yuma border made a huge difference,” DHS officials said, commenting on the arrests.
