HIGH POINT — Large majorities of North Carolina residents believe that certain groups of immigrants should be allowed to stay in the United States, according to a new High Point University/News & Record Poll.
More than 8 in 10, or 83 percent, said those serving in the military should be allowed to stay. Those who are working and paying taxes got 77 percent support. And more than three-quarters (76 percent) of respondents said those married to U.S. citizens or legal residents should be allowed to stay.

In addition, 73 percent said those who have children who are U.S. citizens or were brought here as children (72 percent) should be allowed to stay, according to a news release.
