A man from Guatemala was sentenced in federal court in western North Carolina on Thursday after reentering the U.S. following his deportation.

Omar Ramirez-Ramos, 34, was arrested in Oct. 16 during a traffic stop in Polk County. Deputies on scene determined Ramirez-Ramos was living in the U.S. illegally and has previously been deported three times.
Investigators said eight passengers in his vehicle were illegal immigrants.
Ramirez-Ramos told deputies he did not know where the immigrants were from but said he was paid $1,000 to transport them from Phoenix to Charlotte.
He was charged with illegal reentry after deportation and harboring illegal aliens. He pleaded guilty to the charges in December 2016 and
