The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said no fewer than 450 illegal immigrants have been arrested and repatriated from Edo State in the first quarter of the year,
The State Comptroller of NIS, David Adi, made the disclosure on Tuesday at the presentation of a refurbished Hilux van by management of Okomu Oil Company in Benin.
He described the repatriated foreigners as irregular immigrants “because they had no regular travel documents and credible means of livelihood, hence, constituted security risk for our country.”
According to the Comptroller, the repatriated illegal immigrants were majorly from Niger Republic, Mali and Ghana.
