Amnesty 2017 is a part of the national campaign ‘A Nation without Violations’ started by Saudi monarch Salman Bin Abdul Azees to wipe out the ‘illegal status’ from among expatriates, allowing them to return to their motherland without paying any fine or facing any legal action. It is an extension of the ‘Nitaqat Amnesty’ campaign launched three years ago during the rule of King Abdullah. More than 2.5 million Indians had availed of the previous amnesty, including 1 million Indians who rectified their status and remained in the kingdom, while 150,000 voluntarily exited.
