FRESNO, Calif. — Law enforcement agencies across California are in a final battle to try and stop Senate Bill 54.
The bill will approve sanctuary laws that protect illegal immigrants and prevents state and local law enforcement from working with the federal enforcement.
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims responded to the recent fight to try and stop senate bill 54 from passing.

“It would mean local law enforcement could not let immigration know about dangerous criminals that were about to be released back into our community,” said Sheriff Margaret Mims.
The State Sheriffs Association is continuing to lobby for amendments to the bill. They said they must have open communication with federal officers, especially at county jails where they can pick up criminals safely.
