Last month special branch arrested Shabana Sheikh, who crossed over from East Pakistan in the ‘60s, on charges of being an illegal immigrant. They want to arrest her daughters, too.
On the morning of July 25th, twenty plainclothes policemen burst into a one-room flat on the third floor of the Al-Malik Co-Op Housing Society in Mankhurd and arrested a 60-year-old woman. The crime this woman had allegedly committed was forging her birth certificate, which attracts a charge under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, but that ordinarily wouldn’t require such a large operation.
