NEW HANOVER COUNTY – Three undocumented immigrants found in New Hanover County were indicted Wednesday and charged with illegal reentry of a deported alien, according to a release from the office of John Bruce, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
According to the release, if convicted, David Lopez-Diaz, 26, and Gabriel Melo-Canales, 37, both of Mexico, could face a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a period of supervised release.
A third undocumented immigrant, Mario Mendoza-Cano, 44, also of Mexico, could face a longer sentence.
Mendoza-Cano had allegedly been previously deported, the release stated, following a felony conviction of possession with intent
